Book Characters Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the last day of Reading Week; students can dress like their favorite book character.  See a snap shot from "Spotlight on Reading" below.

In Math Workshop, students used their math schema to make sense of decimals.  As a class, we identified place value to the right of the decimal and explored the relationship between decimals, money, and fractions.

In Writers' Workshop, students continue to publish their literary essays.  Today, students learned to "clue the reader in" when writing literary essays; using commas to include a brief description after characters' names.

In Readers' Workshop, students closely read The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss. They payed special attention to color in illustrations and dialogue to infer the changes in mood throughout the text, and grow ideas about the central message of the story.

Following our close read, students engaged in dialogue regarding environmental preservation and what they can do to help.  Specifically, students made personal goals for Earth Day (April 22) about how to help our environment.  Ask your child their goal!
