Winter Celebration Monday

In Math Workshop, students took their Unit 4 Math Assessment.  I will aim to have these graded and sent home before Winter Break. Our whole class passed the Fluency Acquisition on this assessment; way to go, third graders!

In Writers' Workshop, students explored information websites about the real Ivan.  They then used what they learned to blog and collaborate with our "Blog Pals" in Michigan.

In Readers' Workshop, I introduced students to The Sweetest Fig, by Chris Van Allsburg.  While reading, we stopped to grow ideas about theme, character traits, and author's craft.  On Monday, we will read The Polar Express and discuss and compare our findings in our Chris Van Allsburg author study.

In Science, students worked on their informational picture books.

Students visited Reading Beaver Block.

Friendly reminder:   To celebrate the winter season, room 13 will be having a small celebration on Monday, December 22.  As we will be engaging in an author study of Chris Van Allsburg the week prior, on Monday we will watch the animated rendition of his book, The Polar Express (G). In addition, students voted to bring in their own special snack and drink to have during the video.
