Mathematical Claims

In Math Workshop, students applied number sense, place value, and ideas about multiplication to explore patterns and make mathematical claims.  For example, students were asked: What are at least 3 truths about any product that has one factor of 5?  Students explained that the product will be odd or even, will always be 0 or 5, the larger the factor the larger the product, etc.  Then they used equations to prove their claims.

In Writers' Workshop, students used transition phrases to connect reasons within their thesis.  Students are really passionate about their SeaWorld opinions and essays; check out how engaged they are!

In Word Study, students identified words that "didn't look right" in their writers' notebooks. Tomorrow students will play headbands in effort to address these common misspelled words.

In Readers' Workshop, students identified solutions to problems to help "get their minds" ready to think and grow ideas about theme.

In Science, students used models to prove their claims about the movement of Earth's lithosphere.

Students visited Reading Beaver Block today.
