Read Your 20!

In Math Workshop, students worked collaboratively in partnerships to dissect and begin work on a high level mathematical task involving distance and time.

In Writers' Workshop, we looked at an "everyday text" in a review of Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2.  We noticed the precise language the author uses to fully depict and represent the movie's characters, plot, etc.  Students then applied this precise language to their own personal narratives to help them capture their readers' imaginations.

In Read Aloud, we used all our strategies to grow ideas about characters to make predictions and character claims.

In Word Study, students found and sorted words in the room with the letter-sound pattern "sh", "ch" and/ or "wh".

In Readers' Workshop, students took on all the responsibility of identifying character challenges and their responses to help infer character traits about said characters.  To do this close reading task, students read Ish, by Peter H. Reynolds.  Ask your child what Ramon's problems was and how he responded.  Ask them what they learned about Ramon by paying attention to how he responded to this challenge.  Encourage your child to use precise character traits when explaining their thinking and reasoning.

Again, please make sure your child is reading their 20 minutes a night.  See the infographic below to show its importance.
In Social Studies, students finished up their projects about key democratic ideas and principles. Tomorrow we will share our thinking and learning with the class.  I will post pictures of students' projects.
